Given the progress in mental health problems, also considering the post-pandemic context, an increase in demand can be seen that
consultation for mental health conditions in hospital wards. That is why it is imperative for every health professional who works in
external guards of general hospitals training in the care of people with mental illnesses.
This context drives us to rethink the practices, devices and interventions in Mental Health in order to guarantee the rights of the
users and promote the importance of comprehensive access to health. All of this requires interdisciplinary and intersectoral work taking into account the
complexity of situations as well as the very complexity of the subjective constitution.
In this sense, doctors and health personnel on general duty must be prepared to provide the first attention in boardings, and work in
team for resolving mental health emergencies, together with specialized personnel. In order to reinforce these competencies and train health personnel
In accordance with these principles and comprehensive health care, it is proposed to open the first course on addressing emergencies in mental health in the area

The mental health approach in the emergency should be carried out by an interdisciplinary team with training in Mental Health (doctors, psychologists,
social workers, nurses, related disciplines). Having this team in hospital wards contributes to a comprehensive approach to health and
improves accessibility conditions for users experiencing a mental health emergency.
● Promote the acquisition of knowledge and useful practices based on professional ethics in emergency mental health situations.
● Promote the acquisition of knowledge to resolve different mental health emergencies in their first approach.
● Promote the acquisition of practical skills at the time of the interview, first approaches and psychopharmacological treatment in emergencies

● Promote the development of skills for the rational management of mental health resources.
● Promote the development of skills for the assembly and maintenance of mental health care devices.
The face-to-face theoretical-practical classes are biweekly and the minimum attendance required is 80%. For the internship you need to accumulate 100% of
the hours required in the total period of the seminar. This activity is coordinated with teachers according to the availability of the Hospital.
In the event that the student lives more than 100 km away from the campus, they may attend one of the two monthly meetings online-synchronously. The
Dates of possible online meetings will be defined by teachers.
The evaluation will consist of a theoretical exam with questions to be developed (50% of the final grade), and a brief monographic writing that articulates
theoretical and practical concepts of the experience carried out in the internship (50% of the final grade).
● Doctors of any specialty, graduate in psychology, graduate in social work, graduate in nursing
● Medicine or psychology students studying the last year of the degree course.
