Cancer, in its various forms, continues to be one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Beyond conventional medical approaches, cancer patients face a series of complex challenges that affect their physical, emotional, and social well-being. These include malnutrition, eating disorders, and emotional disturbances such as anxiety, stress, and depression, which are common and can negatively impact disease progression and treatment adherence. In this context, it is essential to implement a comprehensive approach that considers not only the biomedical aspect but also the nutritional and psychological aspects of the patient.
Oncology psychonutrition is emerging as an innovative discipline that articulates the knowledge of nutrition and psychology to provide more comprehensive, humane, and effective care. However, despite its relevance, this approach is rarely addressed in conventional training. Therefore, it is necessary to create educational opportunities that prepare healthcare professionals to face the current challenges of oncology care from an interdisciplinary perspective.
The purpose of this postgraduate course is to introduce healthcare professionals to the concept of oncology psychonutrition, providing them with basic knowledge of how emotional factors can influence nutrition and how proper nutrition can impact a patient's emotional state. This interdisciplinary approach is particularly relevant in a context where integrative, patient-centered medicine is positioned as a quality standard in healthcare.
