Duration:
The course will last 7 (seven) months, divided into 2 (two) semesters, with a total workload of 130 (one hundred thirty) clock hours. The course will be distance learning (synchronous and asynchronous).

Rationale for the proposal


The Diploma in Nutrigenomics and Microbiota responds to a growing need in the healthcare field: to incorporate new scientific paradigms that integrate nutrition, genetics, microbiota, and the environment, from a comprehensive and personalized perspective of the human being. It is aimed at nutrition graduates and healthcare professionals interested in advancing their knowledge in emerging areas that are transforming clinical practice.

From an epistemological perspective, this proposal breaks with traditional reductionist models, promoting a complex and contextualized view of the individual as a holobiont. Human beings are conceived as a symbiotic ecosystem in constant interaction with their microbiota, which modulates essential functions, thus enabling personalized healthcare that considers each person's biological and psychosocial uniqueness.

From a disciplinary perspective, the course integrates contributions from the omics sciences, environmental toxicology, chronic inflammation, immunonutrition, and micronutrition. Key systems such as the stomatognathic system and the oral microbial ecosystem are also addressed, broadening the view of health from a systemic perspective.

The diploma is organized into 13 modules that ensure a progression from theoretical foundations to clinical practice. It provides tools for the development of critical and up-to-date professionals capable of integrating complex knowledge into their daily practice.

The relevance of this diploma lies in its ability to strengthen professional performance in a context where personalized medicine and holistic health are growing demands in clinical practice and health policy design.

General objectives


  1. Analyze the influence of environmental factors on human health, recognizing their impact on disease risk and their interaction with genes and nutrients.
  2. Reflect on the connection between the human holobiont and its environment, understanding how the interaction between the microbiome, the human genome, and environmental factors influence the overall health of individuals.

Specific objectives


  1. Understanding nutrigenomics as a comprehensive discipline that studies the interaction between nutrients, genes, and health status, promoting a personalized approach to nutrition.
  2. To analyze how nutrigenetics identifies individual genetic variants and their impact on nutrient metabolism, dietary behavior, and the risk of associated diseases.
  3. Recognize the fundamental role of the microbiota as a mediator of the immune system, its influence on metabolic balance, and the health-disease process.
  4. Reflect on how environmental factors and lifestyles influence human health.

Modality and duration


The activity is organized around 13 (thirteen) modules and the production of a mandatory Final Integration Project.

A distance learning course is planned with a biweekly synchronous meeting, and a fundamental requirement is the implementation of a website that serves as a link between students and teachers throughout the development of the activity. To obtain the certification, the following must be met: study and approve all modules and pass the Final Integration Project under the terms and conditions detailed in section 8 (eight)

  • Certified photocopy of the degree certificate (PDF)
  • Updated Curriculum Vitae, in four pages maximumEvidence is not required, except for a photocopy of postgraduate degrees (Specialist/Master's/Doctor).
  • In the case of foreign applicants, they must present a certificate of functional command of the Spanish language, when applicable.

The minimum number of students for the Diploma is set at 28.

To remain in the Diploma program, students must:

  • Attend 80% of the classes taught online. Justification for absence must be submitted to the Graduate and Continuing Education Office within 48 hours.
  • Keep cameras on during class
  • Comply with the obligations established by the teachers.
  • Comply with the corresponding tariff obligations.

EVALUATION

Those registered to pass the course of the Diplomas must:

  • Approve the Final Project by submitting it in writing.

  • Demonstrate 80% attendance at synchronous classes and pass all modules and other scheduled activities.
  • Approve the Final Integration Project.
