Presentation

The kinesic approach in the framework of interdisciplinary treatment of breast cancer includes several aspects all focused on improving the quality of life of the patient and their environment, paying attention to the monitoring of symptoms that may occur through standardized scales, among which are pain, lymphedema, fatigue, neuropathies, respiratory symptoms, dyspnea, bone metastases, digestive symptoms, sarcopenia, management of dysmobility, musculoskeletal, postural, and scarring disorders, prevention of thromboembolic disease, pathological fractures, among other complications.

The kinesic approach is proposed in different stages: preventive, recovery, support or palliative depending on when the patient makes the corresponding consultation, highlighting supportive and educational-preventive care in each of them. The proposal is to anticipate physical deterioration by preventing disability through specialized kinesic intervention. The need for rehabilitation in advanced oncological disease reaches 87%, in our reality this percentage currently reaches only 5%.

Recipients

  • Bachelor of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy
  • Physiotherapist, Physical Therapist with a Degree or Certificate authorized in the country or abroad issued by a National or Private University.

Mode

Modality: hybrid

It is organized around six axes of Academic Training consisting of a total of 6 mandatory theoretical modules that will be taken online, two mandatory practical workshops that will be taken at the UM central campus, a rotation in a specialized center for 20 hours and a final integrative project.

Duration

The University Diploma in post-breast cancer rehabilitation will last eight (8) months with a total workload of 200 clock hours.

Objectives

General Objective:

  • Acquire skills to plan and implement rehabilitation programs that address both the physical and functional needs of patients with breast cancer, acquiring suitability in the application of preventive and therapeutic strategies.

Specific objectives:

  • Understand the medical aspects involved in the development of breast cancer in order to adapt rehabilitation programs to the individual needs of patients.
  1. Acquire skills in assessing physical function, including range of motion, strength, pain and edema to design personalized rehabilitation interventions.
  2. Develop skills in the application of specific physical therapy techniques to address functional limitations and pain associated with breast cancer treatment.
  3. Integrate psycho-oncological approaches into rehabilitation, including emotional support and stress management strategies to improve patients' mental health.

Meeting dates: Starts in April 2026, meets once a month with 2 face-to-face meetings in June and November.

MT002  Medical and pharmacological treatment, surgical treatment, radiotherapy, hormone therapy. Prehabilitation Surgical procedures, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy. Adverse effects. Prehabilitation. Fundamentals. What is it, what is it used for? Functional assessments.
MT003 Oncological rehabilitation. Postoperative care. Common complications. Lymphedema. Complex decongestive therapy. Prehabilitation, pre- and post-operative care. Functional testing. Lymphedema and its treatment
MP004  Practical in-person meeting module. Integration Content integration. In-person practical workshop on prehabilitation and care around surgery. Treatment of lymphedema
MT005 Breast cancer support: psycho-oncology, nutrition, genetics. Importance of proper nutrition, dietary contributions. Psycho-oncological support for the patient and his/her family. Routine genetic tests.
MT006 Pain and palliative care. Metastatic cancer. Common complications at this stage Pain in oncology, analgesic scales, drug interactions. Palliative care during illness and end-of-life stage.
MT007 Oncology rehabilitation Therapeutic gymnastics. Quality of life. Physiotherapy in oncology  

Rehabilitation during cancer treatment. Complications of the disease and treatments.
