Presentation

Postgraduate studies are today an essential part of academic life in the Universities of the world. In this sense, it can be said that they are already a natural and unavoidable continuation of undergraduate studies. But if in general this is indeed the case, it is even more so in relation to those studies on fields that are not only a priority for society, but also show a continuous evolution in the quality and quantity of knowledge that is added day by day. Among these fields, Medicine and the so-called life sciences, such as Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and others, stand out.

These disciplines, in addition to being the protagonists of extraordinary advances, unimaginable 30 years ago, are of special interest because they are the basis for sustaining the health and well-being of human beings. Examples of these amazing developments are assisted fertilization methods, genetic detection of future pathologies or predispositions for them, transplant medicine, gene therapy, human genome sequencing or the development of drugs that make possible a sustained growth in life expectancy, applicable to pathologies against which we were powerless until a few years ago.

The offer of the degree course has an immediate impact on personal improvement and institutional development, by achieving the consolidation of an essential critical mass for research on the subject and the preparation of human resources for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

It offers the possibility of choice to graduates to forge themselves in the specificity of professional performance and its practical and operational problems. It will mainly encourage research around core problems of this interdisciplinary area. Both alternatives -research and action-, are projected so that they can be transferred to the medium in a mediate and immediate way with the aim of contributing to improve the academic quality and the activity of the professionals of the degree courses involved.
