The event took place on the central campus and was attended by the rector, Dr. Eduardo Luna, the vice-rector, Od. Dolores Cielo Romera, the vice-rector Eng. Alfredo Iglesias, the director of Outreach and Institutional Relations, Architect Agustina Mercado Muros and the Sports coordinator, Prof. Federico Zaragoza and the UM student teams. We were also accompanied by the following authorities from each of the UM Schools: the dean of FCM Dr. Francisco Cutroni; the dean of FCE Cdor. Carlos González Moretti; the dean of FCJS Dr. Diego Carbonell; the dean of FI, Eng. Osvaldo Marianetti; the dean of FAUD, Architect Sebastián Serrani, the vice-dean of FAUD, Lic. Josefina Foti and the administrative secretary of FCS, Mariela Martínez.
The Sports Department, within the Internal Well-being Hub of the Outreach Directorate, has gained a strong position in the field in recent months, consolidating its identity and sense of belonging, as well as growing daily in faculty and student participation.
Nowadays:
- More than 200 members of the university community attend the UM gymnasium, located on the military campus at Av. Boulogne Sur Mer and Lencinas. The space is open Monday through Friday and is professionally coached by Professor Federico Zaragoza in the morning shift and Professor Germán Lucero in the afternoon shift.
- Trekking outings attract an average of 25 participants per event, under the specialized guidance of Horacio Cunietti.
- Based on the sports survey conducted during the first semester on the three campuses, teams were formed for interuniversity competitions in the men's and women's soccer, basketball, volleyball, paddle tennis, and hockey categories, achieving outstanding results in various events.
- UM students and faculty actively participate in local marathons and degree courses, with special invitations that strengthen the institution's presence in the sports community.
The design and production of the official UM jersey, along with its launch, consolidate and highlight the sustained work carried out by the Sports Department. Today, wearing the UM jersey ceases to be a project and becomes a reality that symbolizes identity, belonging, and institutional commitment.
Architect Agustina Mercado Muros highlighted the symbolic importance of this moment: “Wearing the UM jersey isn't just about dressing up to compete. It's about carrying a symbol. Just as the flag bearer represents an entire country by carrying the Argentine flag, our students, by wearing this jersey, represent the entire UM community.” Universidad de Mendoza"To your classmates, teachers, families, and the generations who will pass through this institution. The jersey represents commitment, effort, identity, belonging, and institutional pride. You are our ambassadors; wear it responsibly, with joy, and with the spirit of those who know that sport also teaches discipline and values."
From the Extension Department we would like to especially thank the active collaboration of Bernardita Iriart (DCD) and Lía Rosso (FAUD), who made the design of the shirts possible.
Universidad de Mendoza continues to strengthen university sport as a key tool for the comprehensive training of its students, combining the academic life with personal health and well-being.
