Presentation

Universidad de Mendoza as a whole, managers, teachers, non-teaching staff, students and graduates havebeen carrying out an analysis and permanent reflection on the university educational project, with the purpose of proposing, developing and evaluating actions that lead to reaching levels of excellence in all its academic, administrative and management processes.

The main points of interest for this analysis and reflection have been the vision, the mission, the institutional policies, the demands of the regional, national and international context and the current legislation for Higher Education.

As a result of this process, the explicit formulation of the Institutional Project and the Institutional Strategic Plan was possible, which will guide the development of management, teaching and research actions, as well as the interaction of the University with society in the coming years.

Introduction

The UM is a private non-profit institution that fulfills a public function for the exclusive benefit of society as a whole, of which it feels an indissoluble part, adding to it a decided commitment to the common good whose Vision and Mission are specified by continuation.

Vision

It was born from a University that seeks to govern, educate and teach itself in a free and independent way from political and ideological vicissitudes, dedicating its work to the formation of men and women who -on the basis of a solid and adequate moral personality- are authentically university students. These students, with the heritage of their scientific or artistic, professional and technical preparation, are to fully fulfill their own human and individual destiny and to serve the community with the resources of knowledge and culture.

Faithful to the principle of freedom of thought, the UM excludes any sectarianism that emanates from political, racial, regional, religious, class positions or of any other nature; However, not ignoring these questions, but studying them scientifically.

The totality of the activities of the UM, are characterized by an inalienable search of the intellectual quality; quality that supposes a rigorous commitment to the truth, the systematicity of knowledge and the elevation of scientific knowledge.

Mission

The integral formation of the human being, through a continuous improvement of the teaching that it imparts, of the quality research that it seeks, of the extension and transfer of knowledge to society.

Universidad de Mendoza is a non-profit civil institution whose only associates are ordinary teachers, who also exercise their full government. It is the University's commitment to contribute to educational development and regional and national productive needs, as well as to the improvement of the Argentine university system.

Context

Universidad de Mendoza It has its Central campus in the City of Mendoza, capital of the homonymous province.

The City of Mendoza was founded by Pedro del Castillo on March, "2", naming it "Ciudad de Mendoza City del Nuevo Valle de La Rioja". The initial location of Mendoza was located in what is currently known as La Media Luna in the Pedro Molina District, in the Department of Guaymallén, on the east bank of the channel currently known as Cacique Guaymallén. The city was under the jurisdiction of the Captaincy General of Chile, although both this Captaincy and all the extensions of Spanish territory south of the isthmus of Panama, at that time were part of the Viceroyalty of Peru.

Mendoza is an Argentine province located in the west of the country that is divided into the departments of Godoy Cruz, Capital, Luján de Cuyo, Maipú, Guaymallén and Las Heras - also called 'Gran Mendoza'.

The total population of the province is "1.700.000" inhabitants, of which "800.000" reside in Greater Mendoza, making it the fourth largest population settlement in the country.

Its economic structure is based fundamentally on the production of primary goods: oil, mining, agriculture, with a growing participation of industry, especially agro-industry and metallurgy. The economy, benefited from the geographical location, makes Mendoza a point of convergence of routes linking with the countries of the Southern Cone and, especially, an exit point for the Pacific markets.

Regarding its social structure, the province is characterized by the existence of a strong middle class, with a reduced dependence on the public sector and a high average educational level of the population. Likewise, the cultural level is relatively high, both quantitatively and qualitatively, a feature that is manifested in the holding of congresses, meetings and conferences of a professional, scientific or cultural nature in its territory.
